When I started working remotely in 2017, I thought the biggest challenge would be figuring out visas and finding decent WiFi.

I was completely wrong.

The real challenge? Staying healthy while your entire world changes every few months.

I've watched too many friends burn out in their first year of nomadic life. They start with incredible enthusiasm, posting those perfect laptop-on-beach photos, only to return home months later feeling exhausted and defeated.

Here's what I've learned after seven years of remote work: staying healthy as a digital nomad requires a completely different approach than what works when you're settled in one place.

The nomads who thrive long-term aren't the ones with perfect routines. They're the ones who've learned to create flexible systems that adapt to constant change.

The mindset shifts that change everything:

You're not on permanent vacation. Accept that some days will be "boring" with laundry, normal work hours, and early bedtimes. That's not failure, that's creating the stability your body needs.

Slow travel isn't just trendy, it's essential. Constantly moving is exhausting. Your body never adjusts to time zones, your sleep suffers, and you're always in planning mode instead of living mode.

Planning ahead is liberating, not limiting. A little research before you arrive (gyms, healthy food options, nomad communities) reduces stress and decision fatigue.

The practical foundations:

Choose accommodations with kitchen access. After weeks of eating out constantly, your body craves routine and home-cooked meals.

Master the 80/20 approach to eating. Eat well 80% of the time, explore local cuisine 20% of the time.

Focus on consistency over perfection with exercise. Bodyweight workouts, active exploration, and joining local fitness groups work better than elaborate routines.

But here's the part that doesn't make it into Instagram posts: the mental health challenges are real. Loneliness hits differently when everything is unfamiliar. Decision fatigue from constant choices is exhausting.

The solution? Prioritize community over everything else. Create systems for recurring decisions. Build anchors that ground you when everything feels chaotic.

Your health isn't negotiable. Everything else about nomadic life depends on you feeling good enough to enjoy it.

If you're struggling with health as a nomad or considering this lifestyle, read this guide for practical strategies that actually work when your office changes every few months.

That’s it for today.

Thanks for reading, until next week!
