Strength Through Movement

Most people think about building muscle in the gym, but former USA gymnastics coach Christopher Sommers talks about something more useful: mobility as strength through movement.
It's not just about being flexible. It's about quality of movement now and in the future.
The ability to not feel wrecked after a long day at your desk. Getting off a flight without your back screaming. Carrying a heavy suitcase upstairs without tweaking something. Catching yourself properly if you trip or stumble.
Real mobility means stretching under load, not just passive flexibility. If your muscles can handle movement while working against resistance, they'll be way more capable when they're not under stress.
This matters whether you're hiking mountains or just trying to pick something up off the floor without groaning.
People who start complaining about movement in their 30s, 40s and 50s aren't sore because of their age. They're sore because they haven't taken care of themselves. The aches and pains aren't a natural part of getting older - they're the result of neglect.
Most of us accept feeling stiff as normal. It's not. And it's easier to get ahead of than you think.
Even once a week of mobility work creates massive improvements. It's the unsexy stuff nobody thinks they need until they do.
Here are some simple loaded stretches to start with:
Bulgarian split squats - stretches your hip flexors while your legs work to stabilize you.
Deep lunges with a twist - gets your hips and spine moving while your core fights to keep you balanced.
Wall sits with arm circles - challenges your legs while opening up tight shoulders and chest.
Cossack squats - lateral movement that most people never do, but your hips will love you for it.
Start with 30 seconds per movement, build up slowly. You can add more sets, string them together as a full mobility session, or increase the time as you get stronger. The key is making your muscles work while they stretch.
Takeaway: To get started quickly, pick two of these movements and do them once this week. Hold each position for 30 seconds and focus on controlling the movement. Notice how different it feels from regular stretching.

Turn Podcasts into Link Magnets

Saw this tweet from Charles Floate this week about turning podcasts into link-building machines.
His system: record a podcast episode, then squeeze it across multiple channels. Show notes on high-authority sites. Transcripts become blog posts. YouTube descriptions with backlinks. Guest cross-promotion. AI summaries syndicated to Medium and LinkedIn.
His math: one episode equals 4-6 backlinks. Stack 10 episodes and you've built a proper SEO campaign.
Smart approach.
Most people see podcasts as just audio, but treating each episode as raw material for an entire content system changes the game completely.
The cross-promotion piece is where real value sits. When guests share episodes with their audiences, those backlinks carry actual weight.
Few caveats though.
Quality beats quantity with backlinks. If it's always your own content linking back to itself, Google might start ignoring it. And syndicated content on platforms like Medium often comes with weaker SEO juice anyway.
Takeaway: Think beyond your original content format. How many different ways can you package the same material? Each version might open a traffic channel you're missing. Try this yourself or for your clients.
📚 AND WISE
Go First
Say hello first when you cross paths with someone. Raise your hand first to ask the question everyone's thinking. Introduce yourself first at that networking event.
We've all been there. Standing in a co-working space wondering if we should say something to the person next to us. Sitting in a meeting with a question but holding back because we might look stupid. Walking past someone we vaguely recognize but waiting for them to acknowledge us first.
This waiting game rarely works in our favor.
Most of the time, the other person is probably thinking the same thing. They want to ask that question too but feel shy. They'd love someone to break the ice but don't want to seem pushy. They recognize you but can't quite place where from.
Going first cuts through all that mental back-and-forth. It turns potential missed connections into actual conversations. Those conversations become stories, friendships, opportunities that wouldn't exist otherwise.
Sure, sometimes you'll get a lukewarm response. Sometimes people are busy or not interested. But that brief discomfort builds resilience and confidence for the next time.
The nomad lifestyle makes this even more important. You're constantly the new person in unfamiliar places. Waiting for others to include you means missing most of what's happening around you.
Take the lead. Ask the question. Make the introduction. Start the conversation.
Takeaway: This week, practice going first in small ways. Say hello to someone new. Ask that question you've been holding back. See what opens up when you stop waiting for permission.
